Retaining leading employees is a primary factor in any organization to maintain the strength and morale of the workplace. Employees that were hired and trained with immense efforts need to be retained by yielding equal effort and investing in their talent. The greatest drawback a workplace can ever stumble upon is losing its employees. When a workplace loses its employees, it can have a direct impact on the workplace’s reputation, morale and profitability. In order to avoid the negative circumstances and devising new strategies to retrieve the employees is to never lose them in the first place.

There could be many reasons why employees quit, personal reasons, further education and other life events. However, the main reason why employees quit depends on their workplace and their leaders.

 

Lack of management’s recognition

Employers usually obliterate the employer-employee relationship because they fail to place their employees in the spotlight. Every employee requires the need of recognition and closer connection from their leaders. It does not necessarily require friendship although there must be a relationship, which most employers fail to do so and results in loosing some of the most potential employees. The leader provides feedback and shows interest and connects with the employees.

Traits of a bad leader that can be observed in employee’s behavior are, employees avoid having a mode of communication with the employer. An employee who has never been recognized by their employer acquires an assumption that his employer simply does not care. Therefore, let’s out a hesitation towards his leader. Henceforth, lack of recognition from the employer acts as a one of the initial reasons for why employees quit.

 

Poor on-boarding programs

On-boarding programs are specially organized for newly hired employees to develop skills and communication among each other. The main mission is to shape the newly hired into their specific jobs and suit them to the new working environment. On-boarding programs are conducted to improve employee’s work performance. Few of them are,

  4. Encouragement
  5. Decrease turn over
  6. Improve relationship between employer and employee

On-boarding programs carries heavy potential. Nonetheless, if conducted poorly, it can leave a huge space left for improvement and engagement. This can cause employees to feel disengaged right from day one of the job. The first experience matters much more than the other days at work as the companies first impression decides the employee’s perspective about the company. There are employees who leave the job just after few weeks of joining because of the poor on-boarding.

 

Lack of independence at the workplace

Independence at workplace allows employees to become much more confident and helps them grow. Employees who are pressured by their leader to work on their terms are usually the ones to quit. A good leader gives his employees the chance to work as they will, it creates confident decision-making skills. Employers who are too controlling and leave no space for his employees to decide or contribute independently in work lead the employees to job dissatisfaction and gradually quit.

Whereas, there are also some leaders who in the name of independence leave their employees on their own which results in lazy management. In this method of management, employees don’t understand what is expected by their leader and creates a communication barrier and zero team work. Furthermore, it creates a lack of transparency, leaving no room for development in work or the relationship between the employer and the employee.

 

Toxic work environment

Workplaces are expected to be pleasant and to function in order. In any organization, office relations are to be taken professionally, at least during the office hours. Ever so often, it doesn’t go as planned. Relationships and conflicts can disrupt the office environment. It can outset gossips and co-employee discouragement. Employees who feel, they are much wiser and capable of a better workplace will quit rather than working in a toxic workplace.

Employees expect equivalent returns to what they deliver to the workplace. However, few workplaces fail to do so. Employees not receiving their full salaries or a delay in receiving the salaries. Not receiving the expected salaries also affects their personal life. Rewarding good work with appropriate pay and providing benefits and recognition will show employees that they are valued.

 

Promotion issues

When employees work and deliver better and more than what their actual job asks for, the leader must give what he deserves in return of his hard work. Unfortunately, the before doesn’t always goes as expected. Leaders that are ignorant and care less for their employees do not bother looking out for them or their daily activities.

Promotion is a career advancement which every deserving employee looks up to. However, giving it all and not receiving the deserving promotions can be disappointing and degrading. Therefore, employees leave jobs when they don’t find any advancement in their work.

Although, it can be even more degrading when a non-deserving former employee gets promoted. Employees start applying for jobs elsewhere when they don’t receive what they deserve.

 

It is the job of a leader to manage his team and workplace. The employees that were hired to make the workplace a successful and fruition company, deserve to be taken care of by their leader. When the employer fails to do so, it concludes to employees quitting their jobs in order to receive better benefits from some other organization. Leaders need to understand that employees are the soul and strength of the company.

A workplaces relationship with its employees goes hand in hand. It builds together, faces conflicts together and overcomes the defeats without facing any negative consequence on the relationship. Nevertheless, believe in each other’s potential. Employee retention practices are important as it creates a positive and healthy environment at work, it shows the employees that you care for them and are glad to have them on-board. This strengthens the employees trust towards the organization and boosts their productivity.
